Being a tourist in Copenhagen

Frederiksborg Slot - the royal castle at Hillerod
In my attempt to partly treat my trip as a holiday I am making sure that I spend some of my time on weekends being a tourist. Most of my 'touring' so far has been in Copenhagen, but I did make use of the "free S-trains on the first Sunday of every month" to go check out a beautiful castle at Hillerod, North-West of Copenhagen.

Unfortunately, many of the sights I want to get photos of I haven't been able to due to the continuously crappy weather here. So eventually I'll get some photos up of Copenhagen more generally - the lakes (or moats essentially) that surround the inner city, the housing, the wind turbines all over the ocean, etc. Most of the time is has been totally overcast and much of the time there is a constant drizzle. Very rarely is there heavy rain. But I at least now understand how some people in this world don't understand the concept of a drought!

Of interest, was my trip across the harbour to Christianhavn which contains the 'enclave' of Christiania. In short, a bunch of hippies in the '70's took over the army barracks and have lived there ever since in their own little 'free state'. Up until recently, hard drugs were freely sold there, whereas now, the so called "drug alley" only contains marijuana dealers - a dozen or so people with their little stalls set up selling a variety of forms (flavours perhaps?!) of pot - leaves, 'slabs', etc. Unfortunately, photos aren't allowed in that area! At times throughout the past few decades officials have tried to clean it up, but with very little success. However, these people are living essentially on public land for free, and it's almost prime real-estate. Consequently, some Copenhageners aren't overly impressed.

Since I haven't quite figured out yet the best way to post photos in the blog (both in terms of ease for me, and simplicity for viewing), I am trying something new this time. Hopefully it works, and my guess is that if you receive posts via email, you'll have to click on whatever appears below to see the slide-show.

  1. Is that a step back or forward from the MX5?

  2. Nothing can compare to the MX-5! However, the outlet I found was in the street where the royal palace is - a very fancy street with many an expensive car (Porsche's and the like).
